When cataracts cloud your eyes and make it difficult to see, you can miss out on much of what the world has to offer. Besides struggling to see through blurry lenses, cataracts can make everyday tasks, like driving at night or walking down dark stairs, potentially dangerous. The TECNIS® mono-focal intraocular lenses offered at our Houston, Katy West, Katy East, and Spring offices are made specifically for patients who are looking to improve their eyesight and recapture their independence.
The surgeons and staff at Whitsett Vision Group are dedicated to helping you achieve your visual goals, and we look forward to seeing you in one of our three Houston-area locations soon for your cataract consultation.
For individuals who suffer from cataracts, the TECNIS® IOL provides a useful, practical means of restoring distance vision. One of the major benefits of improving your vision with TECNIS® mono-focal IOLs is safety. Even if reading an eye chart does not pose a problem for you, low-light and low-visibility situations can become dangerous because you lack contrast sensitivity. These artificial lenses will improve your ability to drive at night and provide you with greater functionality.
The Procedure
Your surgeon will make a tiny incision, less than 1/8 of an inch wide, and use gentle vacuum suction to remove the natural lens from your eye. Next, through the same micro-incision, your new, monofocal IOL will be inserted, unfolded, and placed into the proper position. The incision is “self-healing” and usually requires no stitches — it heals quickly and provides a much more comfortable recuperation. The whole procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes.
Is a conventional IOL right for me?
If you have been diagnosed with cataracts, and wish to correct your astigmatism and reduce your dependence on glasses after cataract surgery, you may be a good candidate for a Toric IOL. Our doctors and staff will perform diagnostic testing, and discuss your lifestyle and visual goals to determine if this lens is a good fit for you. The best way to find out if you are a candidate is to schedule a cataract consultation.
