Whitsett Vision Group is proud to offer a breakthrough ‘trifocal’ lens implant called the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal Intraocular Lens, that was recently approved for use in the US by the FDA. The PanOptix lens is the first trifocal IOL of its kind to provide patients with excellent near, intermediate, and distance vision, while significantly reducing the need for glasses after cataract surgery. This trifocal lens implant is designed for patients who desire high quality vision at all ranges, and in all lighting conditions, with little to no need for glasses.
The PanOptix lens uses ENLIGHTEN®Optical Technology, a design that optimizes intermediate vision without sacrificing near and distance vision. This multifocal, or Trifocal, IOL allows for better near and intermediate vision (reading, computer work) than a monofocal – or single vision – lens would provide.
During clinical trials, PanOptix patients reported that they enjoyed uninterrupted vision at near, intermediate and distance. The results also showed high patient satisfaction, with more than ninety-nine percent of patients saying they would choose the same lens again.
The Procedure
Your surgeon will make a tiny incision, less than 1/8 of an inch wide, and use gentle vacuum suction to remove the natural lens from your eye. Next, through the same micro-incision, your PanOptix® multifocal IOL will be inserted, unfolded, and placed into the proper position. The incision is “self-healing” and usually requires no stitches — it heals quickly and provides a much more comfortable recuperation. The whole procedure usually takes between 15-30 minutes.
Am I Candidate for a Multifocal IOL?
If you have been diagnosed with cataracts, and wish to reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses after cataract surgery, you may be a good candidate for a PanOptix® Multifocal IOL. Our doctors and staff will perform diagnostic testing, and discuss your lifestyle and visual goals to determine if this lens is a good fit for you. The best way to find out if you are a candidate is to schedule a cataract consultation.
