Conventional Monofocal Lens

Conventional Monofocal Lens

Besides struggling to see through blurry lenses, cataracts can make everyday tasks, like driving at night or walking down dark stairs, potentially
dangerous.

The surgeons and staff at Whitsett Vision Group are dedicated to helping you achieve your personalized vision as well as providing all the
information and resources you need to fully understand and be comfortable during the process, before, during and after your cataract surgery.

For individuals who suffer from cataracts, the monofocal lens provides a useful, practical means of restoring distance vision. One of the major benefits of improving your vision with a monofocal IOL is safety. Even if reading an eye chart does not pose a problem for you, low-light and low-visibility
situations can become dangerous because you lack contrast sensitivity. These artificial lenses will improve your ability to drive at night and provide you with greater functionality.

A conventional IOL is a monofocal lens implant that is designed to correct your vision at a single distance. Monofocal IOLs use aspheric technology to provide excellent contrast sensitivity, and high-quality vision in a variety of lighting conditions. Patients that have cataract surgery with a conventional IOL will likely need to use glasses or contact lenses after surgery to achieve their best vision.

The Procedure

Our surgeons and surgical counselors will meet with you to review recommendations for your unique visual needs, suggested recommendations, and all pre- and post-operative preparations.

During your cataract surgery, your surgeon will remove the clouded lens from your eye and replace it with a flexible, clear intraocular lens (IOL). The removal involves a micro-incision for lens insertion. The incision is “self-healing” and usually requires no stitches — it heals quickly and provides a much more comfortable recuperation. The whole procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes.

What lens or IOL is right for me?

At Whitsett Vision Group, we conduct diagnostic testing to gain a comprehensive understanding of your eye health, discuss your lifestyle and visual goals, and offer tailored recommendations based on our expertise, our research and clinical trial participation.

The best way to find out if you are a candidate for any of our lens options is to schedule a cataract consultation.

Our surgical counselors and team will provide you with information about your choices to ensure you feel confident in both the procedure and the selected lens
